Agent Carter
Talk of an Agent Carter series has been going on for a bit, even ahead of its debut as a One-Shot release on the Iron Man 3 DVD/BD release, but things picked up later on with ABC talking about developing it and working through some ideas with the screenwriters behind Captain America: The First Avenger, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. With the pair out doing a lot of press for the new Captain America: The Winter Soldier film, the questions have naturally come up among the sites that are more aware and the pair actually had some decent information to reveal.
The big positive for a lot of fans will be is the confirmation that they have talked to Hayley Atwell and she is very interested in pursuing it, something she’s stated publicly before. They’ve completed the script for the pilot for ABC and are waiting to hear back about whether it will proceed or not. In terms of the show itself, it’s going to be set in 1946 around the same time as the One-Shot and you can see that being expanded and worked into the show.
“We can’t get her to the end of S.H.I.E.L.D. that fast. We wanna stay in that world longer where people are disrespecting her and she’s proving herself and going on missions and things like that.”
And luckily, they’re going to be using Howard Stark as a recurring character as opposed to a regular, since they would be tied too much to what came before and allows for Dominic Cooper to join in without being fully committed. He’s interested, but there are larger things going on with his career in general.
And most importantly, at least in my mind outside of the casting, is that ABC is looking for this show to be a 13 episode season run. We’re seeing more of that coming from the networks which allows for tighter storytelling and less gaps over the course of things but also a smaller commitment from all involved.
“[13 episodes] is how this is envisioned, maybe even less… That’s my hope, is that it would be something like [Under the Dome]. Our case would be that it would be a limited series and you would wrap up that one bad guy and that one case, and then if you like it we’ll do it again next year and it’s 1947.”
