Robot Girls Z

While the first volume doesn’t come out until June 13th, 2014, Toei Entertainment is showcasing the DVD and Blu-ray releases for the recently finished series Robot Girls Z. The show is getting three releases across DVD and Blu-ray where each volume runs an average of 35 minutes. The DVDs are priced at 6,300 yen each while the Blu-ray’s get priced at 7,350 yen each. The releases do come with a few extras that are worth noting. The first volume comes with the episode zero preview and there’s a new episode 3.5 slotted for the first volume as well. A drama CD will be included in the release as well.

The series takes characters from Toei and Dynamic Planning and changes the various giant robots into cute girls for wacky and silly adventures that will delight many and infuriate others. It’s being directed by Hiroshi Ikehata based on scripts by Kazuho Hyodo with Tetsuya Kawakami doing the character designs. It stars Mariko Honda as Z-chan, Inori Minase as Gre-chan, Kazusa Aranami as Grenda-san, Aya Hisakawa as Ashura, Yukiko Morishita as Garada-chan (Garada K7), Nao Tōyama as Doublas-chan (Doublas M2) and Sota Arai as a shopkeeper.

Plot concept: Robot Girls Z centers around three girls based on Toei’s famed Mazinger Z franchise: Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, and UFO Robot Grendizer. The girls go around Tokyo raising awareness about the promising new energy source “Photon Power.” However, when the enemy Mechanical Beast girls appear and attempt to steal the energy, the girls, collectively called “Team Z”, must battle them in order to prevent the Photon Power from being stolen!
