While the film has been set for a bit for a 2014 release, we haven’t had any actual US distribution for the film Kite yet. That’s changed today as Anchor Bay has picked up the rights to distribute the film in North America. There hasn’t been too much revealed about the film overall since it went into production and outside of the trailer and clip that debuted in January, it’s been pretty quiet. Based on the original anime OVA of the same name, it’s directed by Ralp Ziman with an introduction here by Samuel L. Jackson, who plays lead alongside India Eisley as Sawa. No release date has been set yet.
Original OVA premise: She may be cute. She may be young. She may seem innocent and naive, but don’t be fooled. She’s a cold-blooded killer, and if you’re on the wrong side of the law, you may be her next target.
After being orphaned at a young age, her parents victims of a brutal double murder, Sawa was taken in by the detective assigned to her case. Not content to just watch as the imperfect justice system let more and more criminals go loose every day, he’s decided to train her to be his instrument of justice. After all, who’d suspect a pretty college student of being a deadly vigilante?
