What They Say:
In every decade or hundreds of years, the dragon moves its body as if it tosses about unconsciously. The movement becomes the distortion and causes impurity. This “impurity” lavishes an evil on people. And now, there is a huge indication of a distortion. Gods foresaw the greatest harm would happen to Japan, divide own power and give it off as a messenger of God (“Shinshi”) in Japan to gather mediums, or “Magica” who can expel the “impurity”. With the magical weapon the power of Gods, “Magica” will fight to stop evils in Japan.”

With Matsuri having made her way to the big city, she ends up getting caught up in her first real and aware fight here as Toro makes it clear who the opponent is. Of course, that means that a transformation sequence in order and that provides a fun and not-sexy opening minute. It’s also welcome that it’s done in just under a minute considering the length of the episode. The fun is in watching her deal with this utterly goofy giant robot and the way she doesn’t have the skill set in the slightest just yet to handle it with ease. The battle takes up the entire episode but it’s done in a fun enough way here where Matsuri’s cuteness definitely works to her advantage and we see how she manages to get a bit more settled into the role that she now has to play.
In Summary:
The pairing of Toro and Matsuri has worked well for the last couple of episodes, this one included, as we see how the two of them work together. Toro’s definitely outgoing and kind of fun in a way that works for a little while, but you can also see how it’d be completely annoying after a bit of time. Still, with Matsuri stepping up to the plate and dealing with the enemy, the fun of the dialogue and the appealing animation, Magica Wars has a decent episode here that’s still trying to do its best to get a handle on the short-form style.
