‘Hunter x Hunter’ Manga Sets Latest Hiatus

$

0

In a segment that I seem to have to do a couple of times a year that really does make me feel bad, Yoshihiro Togashi’s run on Hunter x Hunter is entering hiatus status again. The property returned to serialization back on September 2018 in Weekly Shonen Jump after the previous hiatus it went into back in April 2018. Now, the book is going into hiatus once again as the health issues are taking their toll. No return date is set but Togashi indicated he has a lot of storyboards set and will be focusing on manuscripts while dealing with the health side. Togashi’s health has always been problematic and made this run difficult. The latest hiatus doesn’t have any sort of time frame for it but it was characterized as a short break.

Viz Media has been releasing the series in North America and they caught up in the spring of 2017. They’re also in the process of releasing the anime TV series adaptation.

Plot Concept: Hunters are a special breed, dedicated to tracking down treasures, magical beasts, and even other men. But such pursuits require a license, and less than one in a hundred thousand can pass the grueling qualification exam. Those who do pass gain access to restricted areas, amazing stores of information, and the right to call themselves Hunters.

Alcon has been looking to expand the Blade Runner world since they got the rights to the property (rights that restrict them from remaking the original 1982 film) and we saw the Blade Runner 2049 film last year as well as a short that was produced and streamed at Crunchyroll. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that a new thirteen-episode series inspired by that recent film is in the works with Crunchyroll with Adult Swim set to air it. Called Blade Runner: Black Lotus, there are no plot details yet regarding it but it will be set in 2032.

The series has Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama directing it at Sold Digital Arts. Shinichiro Watanabe is on board as a creative producer.

“I first saw Blade Runner in 1982, at age 11. It has remained one of the defining films of my life,” said Jason DeMarco, senior vp/creative director of Adult Swim on-air. “To be able to explore more of this universe, with the incredible talent we have on board, is a dream come true.”

Adult Swim has the worldwide non-Asia rights to the dubbed version which will be on Toonami. Crunchyroll will handle the worldwide streaming.

Check out the 2022 short from last year below.

Plot concept: Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

TC Entertainment is making a small dip in a big pond as they’re bringing out a box set for the Manga Hajimete Monogatari series. The show ran from 1978 to 1984 and has 305 episodes to its resume. The set here is bringing out 26 episodes on January 11th, 2019 priced at 10,000 yen.

As part of its 40th-anniversary, the set will be making the leap to DVD for the first time with the first fourteen being the actual first fourteen while the remainder are curated from the larger run. It’ll be a three-disc set and will come with a booklet.

The series saw Hitohiko Soga and Sadao Nozaki directing it with a cast that includes Yuko Tsuga as Mogutan, Midori Utsumi as Big Sister for the first nineteen episodes before Mayumi Oka as Big Sister for the remainder. Mitsuo Yoshimura played the uncle and narrator.
