Pacific Rim
October 15th is the date that Pacific Rim will hit the North America DVD/BD market as the film arrives in a couple of configurations, including a 3D release. The feature from Guillermo del Toro fared poorly in the US but managed to eke out a 400 million theatrical run worldwide, but only a percentage of that actually makes it a back. The film did very well in China, but the original distributor only gets 25% of the box office receipts there for it, so it’s not as impressive as it sounds. The release will come with a solid slated of bonus features, which are listed below, and some Blu-ray specific ones which are after that.
- Audio Commentary by Guillermo del Toro
- Drift Space
- The Digital Artistry of Pacific Rim
- The Shatterdome
- Focus Points
- Deleted Scenes
- Blooper Reel
In addition the Blu-ray editions of the film will include all of these and an exclusive featuerette titled “The Director’s Notebook.”
On October 15, the movie will also be available for download in HD or standard definition from online retailers including but not limited to iTunes, Xbox, PlayStation, Amazon, Vudu, CinemaNow and more.
Plot concept: When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
